Tri Peak Project - Mission Complete

Tri Peak Project - Mission Complete

The Tri Peak Project is complete, 3 mountains, 3 lakes and over 400 multi activity miles later having raised valuable funds for MND and the Prince’s Trust.

The team have completed arguably one of the most gruelling triathlon courses created. In just five days the team have:

  • 1.2 mile swim Loch Glenn Finnan
  • Ben Nevis
  • 100 miles Road Cycle Fort William -  Dumbarton
  • 140 miles Road Cycle Dumbarton – Ullswater
  • 1.2 mile swim Ullswater Lake Windemere
  • Scafell Pike
  • 160 miles Cycle Lake Windermere - Snowdonia
  • 1.2 mile Open water Swim Surf Snowdonia
  • Mount Snowdon

Mark Whitwood was supported in 2005 by the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Programme and has lost two family members to MND.  Mark has a track record for going the extra mile and aside to regularly completing multi activity events last year completed Lands’ End – John O’Groats in 7 days for Young Minds and has cycled back from Barcelona on two occasions raising money for Arthritis and Cancer.

Supporting people living with MND and their families is so important to the Tri Peak team and after the inspirational 7 in 7 event completed earlier this year by Kevin Sinfield the team really wanted to make a big impact and help fundraise.

Having worked with young people his entire life, Mark is deeply concerned about the impact Covid 19 has had on the welfare, mental well-being and opportunities available for our next generation in the UK. Supporting the Prince’s Trust will enable valuable support.

Mark did not complete the challenge alone, there were 6 triathletes in the team going the extra mile.

Nick Sherratt, Steve Newell, Lee Barnes, Matty Makinson and Hugh Sugden. Special thanks to the support drives Nick Ketley and Chad Barnes, without you and all your assistance, support and motivation during the event this wouldn’t have been possible.

Everyone in Team Tri Peak thanks all sponsors for their generosity.

A few words from the charities...

“The Motor Neurone Disease Association is incredibly grateful to Mark Whitwood of the Active Sports Group and his team mates who pitted their bodies in the TriPeaks Challenge. This includes not only climbing the UK’s three highest peaks – a feat of endurance in itself – but also completing 3 open water swims and a 400 mile cycle in five days. In doing so they raised over £1780 for the Association. This money will be used to support our work with people affected by MND and our ongoing research into the disease. With the invaluable help of people like Mark we will eventually achieve our goal of a world free from MND.” With thanks and kindest Regards Richard Shackleford MNDA
