Active Sports Group Kickstarts graduates’ careers

Active Sports Group over 2021/2022 took on the government-initiated Kickstart Scheme. The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new jobs for 16-to-24-year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment. It aims to help people, like you, to develop new skills, build confidence, and increase chances of moving into longer-term employment.

Active Sports Group brought in 3 Lead Sports Coaches and additionally an office role in a Sports Development Officer.

We saw this is a great opportunity for both ourselves and aspiring coaches in recovery from COVID 19. This enabled them to have 6 months paid work developing their practical coaching skills in an established workplace environment.

Jack Lenehan came into a Lead Coach role coaching in one of our primary school delivering breakfast, lunchtime and after school club while also assisting with the office still in admin.

Matthew Mchale brought in a variety of coaching experience already so was able to go straight into a Lead Coach around Southport delivery high quality sessions to primary school children while also assisting in our new experience day.

Joe Coveney was the last of our lead coaches brought in to grow our Warrington area helping reach out to new schools in his local area while also delivering high quality football sessions at existing schools. To top up his work he additionally travelled to Sefton to help deliver lunchtimes.

James Cliff came on as the first sports development assistant we have had in the company’s history to help assist head office in the running of the Sefton area while also communicating with schools to make sure the service we deliver is up to their standard.

6 months on we are delighted to announce that James and Jack have now progressed into full time office roles with Jack support on Sefton and James focusing on leading the Warrington area. Matthew has also progressed into a full-time office role becoming a Lead Coach in the Sefton area doing full time delivery in 2 schools. Joe was offered a full-time role also but choose to peruse his football career in Australia which we wish him the best of luck and thank you for his commitment and work effort while at Active.

The Kickstart program massively helped us grow as a company and has helped us bring in a brilliant new team of young and ambitious staff that can help push Active Sports Group to reach its full potential.
